The competition team came in force this last weekend at the North American Grappling Assoc. (NAGA) The team traveled from Seaside, Oregon to Bremerton, Washington. We had about 20 competition team members ranging from ages 7 – 70 years old. All of the competition team trained for a total of six weeks to prep for the NAGA Championships. All the extra sessions paid off, there was at least one champion from the kids, teens and adults divisions. The team had trained to apply their “A” game which includes take-downs, guard passes, guard attacks and sweeps and top game submissions. This is a delicate process that will become fully developed in the following years. The NAGA in Seattle was a great experience for all!
The competition team trained for the NAGA every Saturday for 2-3 hours at our headquarters in Seaside. The Brazilian Jiu Jitsu training is lead by coaches Zach and Nate Adamson. Each practice was designed to adjust to the change in match times and rules. NAGA uses a different rule system that allowed our kids to learn some new techniques that are not allowed in the IBJJF tournaments. The main way we build the kids confidence is through positive reinforcement of the technique and strong mindset. We constantly preach that to achieve anything great in life we have to be willing to work hard towards our goals. Training for NAGA was no different. The team made us proud and it’s always great when we can be mat side while the team executes what they’ve been practicing.
Students from our Astoria academy also attended and had a great showing. Both of the Boisvert Boys made it to the finals! The young life champions showed great heart and sportsmanship while on the mat. This was a great showing for our kids/adult competition teams. If you or someone you know could benefit from learning martial arts in a safe and positive learning enviorment then please come visit us at our academies in Seaside and Astoria Oregon. We even offer all of our new students and parents a free one on one private lesson, academy tour and consultation. Join now and your child could be the next NAGA Champion!
