One of our sayings at the Academy is that we create champions by design, not mistake. This last summer the kids in our school set out in their uniforms to the mall and other local parking lots to do some fund raising. We were putting together a team of kids to compete at the 2013 Kids Pan American Championships on February 10th. The kids and coaches worked hard and we raised enough to send the whole team of little champions down to California to compete.
We teach our students, kids and adults, what it is the have the mindset of black belts and champions. Carlos Gracie, one of the first Masters of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, said, “There is no losing in Jiu Jitsu. You either win or you learn.” This champions mindset, like the martial art itself has been passed down through decades of training.
The kids got out there, gave it their best, displaying the attitude of true champions and made us proud. One of our 12 year olds, who weighed in at 184 lbs, brought home the gold medal, earning the title among only a few others as one of the 2013 Kids Pan American Champions!
