Having trouble getting your children off the TV or video game? It’s hard to convince them to get off of the electronics and go do something. Here’s some fun, active games, most of which have come out of being a kids coach at the Academy. Keep in mind that this activity will require at least a ten foot circle of space and 4+ people. A game like this will be great in the summer, perfect for camps, vacations, kids having friends over and can make for an awesome family activity.
Ninja Sneak Game: This is one of the games that teach patience, awareness, quick response and timing. All you need for the game is dots, or paper and some sort of flag. 1) Place dots (can be made out of paper) on the floor in a wide circle and one in the center and put a player on each dot. The players on the outside dots are ninjas, the one on the middle dot is the samurai. The samurai in the middle has a tail/flag in their belt, (back pocket or tied on with string but so that it can easily slip out) this is the samurai’s sword.
2) The goal of the game is for the players/ninjas on the outside to get the samurai’s sword while the samurai in the middle defends the sword. One person walks around the circle and randomly tags the ninjas, this is the ninja master, and the players cannot move to take the flag/sword until they have been tagged by the ninja master. 3) If the samurai tags the incoming ninja before the ninja gets the sword, that ninja has to return to their dot and wait to be tagged by the master again. Play until the samurai looses their sword, and then replace the samurai with a new player. Note: Dots should be big enough to stand on. The ninja master pretty much runs the game so this should be a coach, parent or older kid.
