Local freshman, Evan Yokoyama from the Seaside Jiu Jitsu Academy recently became the most accomplished teen grappler in the Pacific Northwest. Yokoyama demonstrated his grappling prowess at the recent installment of Grappler’s Quest in Boise, Idaho. This was a huge accomplishment for Evan and his teammates.Yokoyama became the first person to win such a prestigious grappling tournament at his age and division!
Evan showed why his grappling is a step above the competition by submitting nearly all of his opponents in the gi and without. One of Yokoyama’s best grappling techniques is his infamous “blast double leg” take-down. Grappling is a combination of take-downs, pins and controlling positions, and submissions.
Grappling matches are won through points or submissions. The teens divisions are broken up by weight and skill level. The division that Evan jumped in on is typically one of the most deep and competitive of the whole tournament. You can check out more about by clicking the link below:

Evan Yokoyama is among the many grappling stars coming out the Seaside Jiu Jitsu Academy. As part of the Adamson Bros Competition Team Yokoyama has racked up wins in all the major grappling and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu tournaments in the northwest. Be on the lookout for this up and comer.
